The Catch of the Day

An open face reel, white crankbait
and bottle of rootbeer is what I decided to take

The sun was still down when we both got up
We muddled through town in an old pick up truck

We hooked a few gar and dad caught a bass
The next fishing trip I'd decided to pass

Lifting my rod, thinking my luck had turned bad
Emerging from the water I saw what I had

It was a "buet" as Scott would say
This was by far the catch of the day

Funny thing is she didn't put up a fight
And I couldn't have done better if I'd stayed all night

Daddy held her gently as he passed her my way
Mary, I'm so glad its our wedding day

I love you, Odell
