I Do

A face of stone and sleepless nights
Always asking what gave them the right

At arms length you kept all others
Trusting not family, friends, or lovers

A blunted affect with pain but no tears
The child within delt with her fears

You kept hidden the tragic unknown
Surrounded by many, though still alone

A high school girl and a professional man
Became as close as two people can

What kept us together some may ask
I say I'm sorry and you laid down the mask

We are not seeing each other every day
But soon our friends will hear us say
I do...I do
